Refactoring Organizations / High Performing Company

Let´s talk agile! - Meetup No. 1

Our “Let's talk agile!” Meetup series has started!

In May 2021, we launched the digital lecture and discussion series “Let's talk agile!” on the Meetup platform.

What motivated us to do this?

The key insight from our work in agile teams and organizations is that the idea of continuous development must also be applied to oneself. Ambiguity requires continuous learning, rethinking and rethinking and increases the relevance of exchange and networking with others.

We know that working successfully in an agile organizational environment requires courageous trial and error and experimentation. Anyone who engages with agile working is aware of the numerous benefits as well as the challenges, which can vary greatly depending on the environment. Working in an agile context is about continuous learning and having the courage to admit mistakes and draw new things from them.

The first discussion round with Bastian Wilhelms dealt with the topic “Refactoring Organizations / High Performing Company”. Look forward to the upcoming Meetups!

(Learn more about Bastian here).

One characteristic of high-performance companies is decentralized agile structures and decision-making systems, which are very different from ordinary companies. Instead of rigid structures, they choose the optimal team and organizational form for the respective context. They achieve a strong commitment to strategy through good storytelling rather than hierarchy and KPIs.

We summarize Bastian's core statements for you!

  • Icon -Establish agile structures in three phases.

Establish agile structures in three phases.

The phases for establishing agile structures should be based on the product life cycle: In the start-up phase, ideas are validated through experimentation, this can be followed by the introduction of Scrum in the growth phase and finally the Kanban method in the harvest phase.

  • Icon - What is a decentralized organization?

    What is a decentralized organization?

In a decentralized organization, the majority of decisions are made in close collaboration with customers. The aim is for teams to be able to solve or decide on up to 98% of issues autonomously.

  • Icon - How does decentralization?

    How does decentralization?

A prerequisite for functioning decentralization is the ability of the teams to make decisions themselves. To achieve this, teams must, for example, be familiar with the organization's objectives and be in regular and transparent communication with other teams. It is also essential that the teams have close contact with customers. This is the only way they can really understand the wishes and requirements of their customers.
