Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe®)

SAFe® Framework

When several agile teams work together in product development to sustainably develop the product portfolio, agile frameworks such as Scrum or Scrum of Scrum reach their limits.

SAFe® as a scaled framework offers companies the opportunity to focus on customers, products, innovation and growth by focussing on value streams instead of hierarchies as a second ‘operating system’.

Are you wondering whether SAFe® as a scaled framework fits your organisation and goals?

Are you wondering how you can design a successful implementation in your organisation?

Are you already using SAFe® and want to optimise the flow in your organisation?

We at LEITWERK Consulting will be happy to support you on your individual SAFe® journey and thus create the basis for sustainably ensuring the necessary business agility.

What is SAFe®?

The Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe®) was published in 2011 by Dean Leffingwell and Drew Jemilo. The Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe®) is like a knowledge platform that is continuously expanded and developed by a global community. SAFe® supports companies or large organisational units in establishing lean and agile practices. The scaled framework thus promotes agile alignment and collaboration between teams across organisational boundaries.

In order to ensure the necessary business agility in companies, SAFe® as a framework offers the necessary flexibility for different organisational sizes. SAFe® essentially combines proven principles and methods such as Lean, Agile and DevOps.

Whether it's smaller solutions with 50-125 employees or complex systems that require thousands of employees, SAFe® is scalable and customisable to meet different requirements. With the help of Agile Release Trains (ART), the company is able to cover the entire value chain ‘end-to-end’ and never lose the customer focus.

Introducing SAFe® is a complex endeavour, as existing processes and working methods are changed across all hierarchical levels.

The roles of the SAFe Practice Consultant (SPC) and the Release Train Engineer (RTE) play a decisive role in successful implementation and optimised operation.

Our approach
Your individual SAFe® Journey

  • Icon Framework

Selection of the appropriate scaled framework

Have you already heard of SAFe® and know companies that have introduced the scaled framework? Are you now asking yourself whether the comprehensive framework with its defined roles, processes and artefacts is a good fit for your company and your goals?

Then contact us and arrange a non-binding appointment with our certified and experienced SPCs. We will discuss your individual objectives and current framework conditions in order to gain an overview of the expected added value and possible challenges.

  • Icon Transformation

    SAFe® implementation and transformation

Are you about to implement or are you already in the middle of a transformation to ensure business agility in your organisation with the help of the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe®)? Our certified SAFe® Program Consultants (SPC) will be happy to support you as part of our Academy, taking into account the individual maturity level of your organisation right from the start. Along the SAFe® Implementation Roadmap, we contribute our experience in the customised design of transformation projects.

  • Icon Flow

    Ensure SAFe® Flow

The optimisation of the SAFe® flow is of great importance so that you can ensure optimum customer value with the help of Agile Release Trains (ART) and end-to-end development. Our certified and experienced Release Train Engineers (RTE) help you to ensure continuous optimisation by applying the standardised SAFe® principles and ‘core values’ in line with your needs.

Project example

Establishment of an agile work organisation within the central vehicle software development department of an international automotive group

Scope of commission

Our task was to ensure the agile vehicle software development of an international automotive group by introducing and sustainably implementing agile processes, tools, methods and procedures/actions in the organisation.

Initial situation

For an international automotive group, the cross-brand development of vehicle software was to be managed centrally in an agile organisational unit. The aim was to help shape the agile transformation and support its introduction. The new collaboration model was based on the SAFe® framework in terms of its roles and processes.

Solution approach

A LACE team of internal and external SAFe® experts was set up to establish the SAFe® framework as a ‘second operating model’ and to consolidate its effectiveness in the long term. Agile working methods were introduced in an iterative approach and implemented sustainably through needs-orientated training and coaching. In addition, the LEITWERK colleagues supported the organisation and implementation of PI Planning.

Results

Close collaboration with the internal managers enabled the necessary activities to be effectively supported and established. The resulting empowerment of employees supported the sustainable implementation of the SAFe® framework.
